Estimating the cost of flight training is mainly a function of the number of hours of training required, and multiplying that by the hourly rate for aircraft rental and instructor time. The FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight training, and there are published proficiency requirements. If you meet these proficiency requirements at 40 hours of training, and you pass the flight test, you are a private pilot. It is possible to accomplish this for around $8,000 if you are very focused and you train frequently. I recommend budgeting $10,000, in case you need a little more than the minimum required by the FAA. There is no need to pay in advance, you simply pay as you go. You can use your credit or debit card for your training expenses as well! (Gift certificates available.)
